The Betty Rutherford Award has been presented annually, since 1983, at the CARA Fashion Show in Indianapolis to a person or persons who have given of themselves, in an unselfish manner, for the betterment and support of CARA Charities’ causes.

The Volunteer of the Year Award is given to a CARA Charities member in good standing who has donated a minimum of eight to twelve hours of their personal time for the benefit of CARA Charities during the previous year and represented the organization in the tradition upon which it was founded. the Board of Directors votes on the recipient by secret ballot and is presented at the annual CARA Fashion Show and Luncheon in Indianapolis. The winner is also recognized in the CARA newsletter, CARA web site and in some cases, local and national print and web media coverage.

The Volunteer of the Month is nominated and selected by the CARA Board of Directors during their monthly board meeting. The Volunteer of the Month, who is not necessarily a current CARA member, receives a complimentary one-year membership and their name is added to our Hall of Honor plaque on display in the CARA offices and various CARA events.
